YouTube launches YouTube Music, the Apple Music competitor

On Thursday, YouTube released its new mobile app, YouTube Music, the ‘YouTube app built just for music.’ The new app allows you to listen to an ‘almost endless catalogue’ of music and does so for free, the only catch is that there are ads, which can be removed if you buy a YouTube Red subscription.

There is a lot of content on YouTube Music, the app kind of acts as a personalized radio station, a bit like Apple Music. You play a song and get recommendations, see trending music, up-and-coming artists and more.

To get the most out of YouTube Music, YouTube encourages you to buy a monthly subscription to YouTube Red, which gives you ad-free listening, background playback and original YouTube video content.

YouTube Music is now available on the App Store.
