Today the good folks at Apple released iOS 6.1.3.
It is a tiny incremental update to the ever popular iOS that includes a security patch for the previously very visible passcode bypass vulnerability. The bug allowed access to the Phone app even when the screen was locked. While this is great functionality in my mind, it was not meant to be like that.
The release notes (see image above) also mention improvements to the Maps app for users in Japan. Japan is a very long way off, but either we Americans are getting screwed or the friendly nation of Japan is getting a long overdue update to the Maps app.
The Next Web reports that some of the holes required to jailbreak iOS via Evasi0n have been patched. So those of you out there (myself included) who have jailbroken their iDevices better site tight!
The update is now available through iTunes to most of you out there. The update is also available via the iDevice itself.
If you are like me in any way, you may indeed have a ton of passwords out there. Unfortunately I am a bit paranoid, so I have a large number of different passwords. Not all the same with a 1 after it! Thankfully, the team over at the Apple office’s have made it very easy to recover a forgotten password.
This step by step tutorial is a short one but a life saver if you have ever forgotten your wireless router’s password, or even passwords used online for websites.
Before you get started, you will need access to your Mac’s Admin account and you will need the name of the wireless access point you are trying to recover the password from. Now let’s get to it! (more…)
The latest news around the interwebs is surrounding the possibility of Apple, and even Samsung, building an iWatch. Are you freaking kidding me?
That has got to be one of the dumbest thing I have heard since Google Glass came out!
Anyway, some of the the news comes from Bloomberg who obviously spoke with Samsung’s executive VP Lee Young Hee. He had the following to say:
“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, said during an interview in Seoul. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”
She didn’t have to do what she did, but she did anyways. When married, you pick your battles. This past Valentine’s Day, my wife gave me an iPad Mini. I told her “Thank you” a dozen times over. I hoped that the flowers, card, and small items of affection I’d gotten her were enough, but how could they beat an iPad Mini? The cost comparison was laughable. But, she’s kind and generous like that.
From that fortunate series of events, you could surmise that I was forced to upgrade, but my wife knew that I’d been talking about getting an iPad Mini for months. As the owner of a cracked though still completely functional iPad 3, I was content with what I had. I could patiently wait until the next “innovative and amazing” large iPad was released, you know, the one that will have holographic capabilities and the ability to 3D print iPad Minis. (Isn’t that how The Matrix begins?) (more…)
Lets state the obvious here: You are at an Apple website that covers Apple products, which includes all iDevices and iOS. So you can probably garner the opinion from just that sentence.
BUT, what I want to do is give my honest two cents around the conversation at hand and hopefully lend a little bit of honest common sense to the topic.
The question, Android or iOS?
Which is better and why? Okay so let’s state the obvious here: (more…)
This is a question that I get approached about on a weekly, if not daily basis. Would you purchase a Mac or a PC?
I have been a Mac user for years. From an iMac to a Macbook Pro and now sitting at an Ikea desk typing away on my Macbook Air. I am a lover of these machines. I also ONLY carry an iPhone but that is for another discussion.
The reason I use Mac’s is simple. They are better machines. Period.
But the question above really digs deeper than just a simple statement of preference.
Why do you use a windows machine over a Mac? Vice Versa? What do you need one or the other? This is really what it comes down to. Do you use your machine for work and the apps at work only work on a Mac? Are you a designer and the Mac fits your mold better? Are you a hardcore gamer and need the best drivers available for your video card? (more…)
