Install f.lux on non-jailbroken devices

If you’re one of those people that are stuck on iOS 9.1 for whatever reason, you’d probably be glad to know that the popular, once-jailbreak-exclusive tweak, f.lux, is now available for non-jailbroken devices. You have to jump through a few more hoops than usual to get it installed, but it’s all worth it. [UPDATE] Apple pulls the plug on the side-loading method of installing f.lux.

For those of you that don’t know, f.lux is an essential utility for your iOS device or computer, once installed, it warms ups the colors of your screen to match the time of day. So it’d be warm (orange-y) at night and normal during the day. The warming up of your screen at night makes your devices much easier to use at night.

“During the day, (computer) screens look good – they’re designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn’t be looking at the sun”

If you don’t believe us how useful f.lux is, install it on your computer right now and enable it, and when you’re using your computer at night, disable it, you’ll see the difference straight away. A device with F.lux installed, is much easier on the eyes. Try it.

You might’ve heard that Apple allows side-loading of apps on iOS 9, well, with this, the developers of f.lux have managed to get their utility working on all iOS 9 devices, whether you’re jailbroken or not.

What you’ll need:

  • An iOS device (obviously)
  • Mac, OSX 10.10 or greater
  • A developers account (use your Apple I.D.)
  • Xcode from the Mac App Store

…then just follow the guide on the justgetflux website here.

You can download f.lux for you computer here and if you’re jailbroken, just search ‘f.lux’ in Cydia
