How to use your iPad as an external monitor

You’ve probably tried a couple of apps that allow you to use your iOS device as an external monitor, but find them completely unusable because there’s so much lag and take ages to set-up. In this article we’ll show you the best (and quickest) way to use your iPad (or even iPhone) as a second display for your Mac or PC.

Developed by ex-Apple engineers, Duet Display runs up to 60fps with zero lag and supports touch, so you can interact with your computer with touch as well as the mouse. There’s no need for Wi-Fi here, everything is done through a wired connection. The app is compatible with all iPhone’s and iPad’s running iOS 7 or above.

1. Okay to get going, you’ll want to download Duet Display from the App Store, as of this post it costs $9.99 (usually $14.99).

2. Then head over to Duet Display website to download and install the software for your Mac or PC

3. Connect your device to your computer using its Lightning (or 30-pin) connector cable.

4. Then run the Duet Display app on both your computer and iOS device, and that’s it, it’s that simple!

We recommend checking out the 1byOne multi-angle stand to prop up your device.

If you want, you can also mess around with the settings, for example you can change Resolution, Frame Rate, Performance and more, just tap the Duet Display icon on your Mac’s menu bar and click the gear icon on the bottom right.

Personally, I think $14.99 is a small price to pay for an app that works flawlessly. I could see Duet Display even much better on the iPad Pro‘s massive 12.9-inch screen.

If you’re looking for a way to use your iOS device as a second display for your Mac or PC save yourself the time and hassle and buy Duet Display now.
