Smart Reply was created to take the ‘hassle’ away from replying to emails on our smartphones. The email assistant scans your emails to suggest which ones can be replied to with a short message. You can then click the Smart Reply suggestion and add to it, if needed.
“For those emails that only need a quick response, it can take care of the thinking and save precious time spent replying” says the Gmail team software engineer in a blog post. “And for those emails that require a bit more thought, it gives you a jump start so you can respond right away.”
The Smart Reply feature will be rolling out to iOS and Android users later this week.
Google states that no humans read the emails of Smart Reply users. You can find out more about Smart Reply and its machine-learned system via the Google Research blog post.
