These past holidays, Apple made a record-breaking $1.1 billion in revenue, in the weeks ending January 3rd, as customers increased their spending on apps and in-app purchases. This holiday season was the biggest for the App Store, as the company also reported $114 million in sales on January 1st alone.
A great start to 2016, as Apple reported the biggest single day (January 1st) sales in the history of the App Store, the previous biggest single day sales was days earlier, December 25th.
“January 1, 2016 marked the biggest day in App Store history with customers spending over $144 million,” said Apple. “It broke the previous single-day record set just a week earlier on Christmas Day.”
Apple isnt the only one making money here, since the launch of the App Store in 2008, Apple has paid out nearly $40 billion to developers, and that’s after Apple’s 30 percent cut. Due to the success of the App Store, Apple has effectively created over 1.4 million jobs in the US alone.
“We’re grateful to all the developers who have created the most innovative and exciting apps in the world for our customers. We can’t wait for what’s to come in 2016.”
